Logo for 2012 Olympics in London causes controversy with Iran

London's 2012 Olympic logo upsets Iran who objects to the logo because they said it is racist and warn London that they may boycott the 2012 games.  The secretary general of Iran's National Olympic Committee sent a letter to the IOC president claiming that the logo looks like the word "Zion" which is a term referring to Jerusalem.  Iran's secretary general of the NOC is encouraging other Arab nations to object to the logo as well.  The IOC is not taking any measures to change the logo because they said that "the figure represents 2012 and nothing else." They plan on sticking by the London organizers in defending the logo. The IOC does not understand why Iran is objecting to the logo now because it was created in 2007.  What do you think about the logo?

  1. I agree with the IOC and I also dont understand why Iran is drawing attention to this 4 years after it was created. I mean sure the lettering is kind of weird and can probably look like something to some people...but really its just numbers. I dont get why people have to cause problems over it.

  2. The logo looks nothing like the word "Zion". I saw 2012 before even reading they thought it meant "Zion". I feel like Iran is just craving attention and is just trying to cause controversy.

This was a great blog posting!

  3. The logo is not offensive in any way and I enjoy how the IOC is supporting their host city. Also, I don't think anybody would miss Iran that much at an Olympics. They refuse to compete against Israeli athletes anyways, not exactly demonstrating Olympic sportsmanship or any of the organizations other ideals. I hope other Arab teams ignore Iran's request and act with respect and integrity on the issue.
